Six hundred young Jews arrived in Israel from North America Monday and Tuesday as part of a trip organized by Masa, a branch of the Jewish Agency for Israel. The trip was also sponsored by the Prime Minister's Office.
Mostly taking a gap year from college, the participants will be in Israel for between five months and a year, and will be part of 140 different activities, including learning in yeshivas and studying art.
"The ideology behind Masa is to bring young people from all over the world," said Alex Selsky, spokesperson for the Jewish Agency for Israel, "to a really deep experience in Israel. Not just to come for 10 days as a tourist but to come and make Israel not another country on the map but to make it an unbreakable part of the Jewish identity in every young man or woman."
