775 Israelis ask to give up citizenship in 2006

A lower number of Israelis requested to have their citizenships revoked during 2006 than in the previous year, the Interior Ministry said on Tuesday. A total of 775 Israelis submitted requests to forgo their Israeli status over the past year, a drop from 2005's 808 Israelis who did the same. The majority of requests were fueled by Israelis desiring to become citizens of other countries, or because of security-related jobs that did not allow for dual citizenship. Most of the applications came from Israelis living in Germany, the US, Byelorussia, Australia, England and Holland.
