Maj.-Gen. (res.) Amos Gilad, head of the political-military bureau at the Defense Ministry, said on Thursday that there was nothing in Syria's military build-up to indicate that the country intended to attack Israel in the near future.
In an interview with Israel Radio, Gilad said that the Syrian army was improving its missile system, particularly its anti-tank missiles, but that according to intelligence assessments, this was a long-term military build-up and preparation for a confrontation between Israel and Hizbullah.
