The Labor central committee decided Wednesday to appoint a committee made up of party chairman Ehud Barak's allies to oversee Labor's candidates in the November municipal elections.
Committee members will include Agriculture Minister Shalom Simhon, Labor Secretary-General Eitan Cabel, Histadrut chief Ofer Eini and another Barak representative.
The committee is expected to cancel Labor's municipal primaries nationwide, which will allow its members to select the party's candidates themselves.
Allies of Barak's rival, MK Amir Peretz, accused Barak of political thievery by passing the resolution in a short session that they said "resembled a meeting of the Hevra Kadisha [burial society]."
