'Barring Hamas will have operative consequences'

The approval by the US House of Representatives Friday of a resolution calling for Hamas to be barred from the Palestinian national elections will have "operative consequences", said Foreign Ministry Director-General Ron Prosor. In an interview with Israel Radio Sunday morning, Prosor warned that the participation of Hamas in the elections may lead to the implementation of financial sanctions against the PA and the collapse of the peace process. Prosor added that a possible success of Hamas in the elections will "turn the wheels some 40-50 years back...and the Palestinians will have to pay a heavy price."
