Infrastructures Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer on Tuesday morning called for precautionary steps to be taken for a potential escalation of violence along the northern border. "Hizbullah has returned to its pre-war status, re-arming and returning to southern Lebanon". Ben-Eliezer advised Defense Minister Amir Peretz to listen to Intelligence assessments and not turn a blind eye, Army Radio reported.
On Monday, in an assessment given to the Knesset's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, Brig.Gen. Yossi Baidatz, head of Military Intelligence's Research Division spoke of Hizbullah's growing military abilities since the end of the war in Lebanon this past summer.
Baidatz also referred to the Syrian front, and preparations by the Syrians, with the possible assistance of a third party, for a violent eruption along the border with Israel.
