Following pressure from the Labor party, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert was expected to bring the appointment of Druse Labor MK Ghaleb Majadle to a vote in Sunday's weekly cabinet meeting.
According to Army Radio, Labor officials have agreed that Majadle, if approved, will serve for a time without a portfolio, rather than immediately taking over the Culture, Science, and Sport Ministry formerly headed by MK Ophir Paz-Pines.
If his appointment is approved, Majadle will be Israel's first Muslim and Arab cabinet minister.
