Israel Cancer Association chairman Prof. Eliezer Robinson called on Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Finance Minister Avraham Hirchson on Tuesday to support a private member's bill to automatically update the basket of health services by two percent every year.
Robinson objected to the government decision earlier this year not to update the basket of drugs and other medical technologies in 2007 because the basket increase was doubled in 2006. There are over 120,000 Israeli cancer patients desperate to receive the latest technologies from their health fund, he said.
The Knesset Labor, Social Affairs and Health Committee will soon discuss the automatic updating amendment, which will largely solve the problem, Robinson told the ministers.
