'Committee investigating Peki'in riots targets top Police officers'

An inquiry committee tasked with investigating police conduct during October's Peki'in riots is set to include personal conclusions against top officers in the police's Northern District, including Galilee Subdistrict chief Lt.-Cmdr. Nir Mariash, Army Radio reported Sunday. The report, which was to be presented to Police Chief Insp.-Gen. David Cohen in the next few days, stated that the police arrest operation in the Druse village was characterized by failures at the command and organizational levels. It further maintained that police forces were not properly prepared for the operation, were unfamiliar with the area and did not receive photos and maps of the village beforehand. It added that police commanders were late in arriving at the scene.
