A senior Israeli police officer was under arrest
Monday on suspicion of taking bribes from a criminal, the Justice Ministry said.
Rafi Menashe, a 16-year veteran of the police force who heads a police intelligence branch in northern Israel, was apprehended Sunday night ahead of a Channel 2 TV expose on the case slated to be broadcast this week.
The police officer is alleged to have promised the
wanted criminal that if helps him bolster his
"wretched police salary," it will "pay off."
Incriminating tapes of the two men conversing are
slated to be broadcast on the 'Uvda' ('Fact') news program Wednesday night.
The police officer denied the severe allegations
against him during a Monday remand hearing at a
Jerusalem court.
