Court rejects petition for Kassam-safe housing

The High Court of Justice on Wednesday rejected a petition for alternative housing filed by 23 Gaza evacuee families living in the western Negev kibbutz of Karmiya. The petition, filed with the help of the Legal Forum for the Land of Israel, came in the wake of a February Kassam attack that wounded four people, including a small baby. In total, 56 families opted to move to modular housing built by the government in Kibbutz Karmiya following the disengagement from the Gaza Strip. They planned to remain there until their permanent homes in Telme Yafe could be completed. According to the residents, the homes were not protected against Kassams, and nearby security rooms promised by the government had not been built.
