Unidentified criminals broke into the official vehicle of Likud front-runner MK Binyamin Netanyahu Saturday night while it was parked in a Tel Aviv garage. The incident raised serious questions as to the efficacy of the security protection offered to high-profile public officials.
When Netanyahu and his security detail returned to his car after a meeting, they found that a window had been smashed, and that two cellular phones were missing.
Police sappers were alerted to make sure that no explosive devices had been placed in the vehicle, which had apparently been left unguarded while the former prime minister met with a publicist.
Police were uncertain as to whether the thieves knew that the car belonged to Netanyahu and an investigation into the incident was underway.
