Education committee postpones student rights vote

The Knesset Education Committee postponed the second and third readings of the vote on the proposed student's rights bill. The committee chairman, MK Michael Melchior, said that he had postponed the vote because the students and the government were already negotiating a compromise proposal. MK Silvan Shalom, one of the bill's proponents, said that the purpose of the bill was to preclude the possibility of students being subjected to the whims of any government. He claimed that the current government had outdone all previous ones in mobilizing against the students.
