All classes in Eilat high schools were canceled on Sunday after a mother attempted to strangle a principal. The mother reportedly arrived at the school to persuade the principal to let her son take a test. The principal refused, saying that the boy had missed too many classes. The mother then attempted to strangle the principal while pinning her against a wall. When other school officials heard the principal screaming, they rushed to her aid. The principal was lightly wounded, and the mother was taken into custody by police. Eilat Mayor Yitzhak Halevy canceled classes in every high school in the city for the remainder of the day. "With the support of the Teachers Union and the Central Parents Committee, the mayor decided to immediately end the school day in every high school," the municipality said in a statement. "The students are being informed of the situation and will be sent home. Tomorrow, classes will [resume as normal] in every school."
