Erdan: IDF chief shouldn't be chosen by politician

MK Gilad Erdan (Likud) presented a bill, according to which the chief of general staff would be appointed by a public committee and not by the defense minister, Army Radio reported on Wednesday. Arden explained that choosing the leader of the IDF should be a purely professional decision: "it is impossible that the leader of the army be chosen by a politician, because this can lead to choosing an unprofessional person because of outside considerations." According to the bill, the defense minister would set up the committee, which would in turn give the prime minister its recommendation.
