Gov't to subsidize flights to Egypt, Jordan

El Al and Arkia are to receive special government funds which will allow them to continue regular flights to Egypt and Jordan, the Transportation Ministry announced Tuesday. The decision to grant government subsidy comes following El-Al's threat to discontinue the flights, claiming they were not profitable. The cabinet approved the proposal by Transportation Minister Shaul Mofaz calling on the government to increase the subsidy of the airline's security expenses, which are exceptionally high. The decision is not expected to affect flight prices.
