"If Israel knows where he is located, they might blow the place up in order to bring about his death and end the whole affair," he said.
He added that Hamas had received no new offers to free Palestinian prisoners in exchange for Schalit, but that there was movement on the issue and that other officials were mediating between the two sides after the Egyptians stopped their mediation efforts.
The comments came after an Associated Press report on Wednesday that Cpl. Gilad Schalit's kidnappers "may permit" International Committee of the Red Cross representatives to visit him - a report that the ICRC later denied.
ICRC officials have constantly demanded that Schalit be allowed visitors and to send messages to his family, but these requests have been denied, Bana Sayeh of the ICRC's east Jerusalem office said on Wednesday.RECOMMENDED STORIESIsrael Navy attacks Houthis for first time in Hodeidah Port strikeJUNE 10, 2025Russia to construct eight nuclear power plants in IranJUNE 9, 2025Greta Thunberg among voluntarily deported activists, eight remain in detentionJUNE 10, 2025Jewish woman reveals plot to poison Israelis at Boom Festival in PortugalJUNE 9, 2025
