Hirchson asks Finance Ministry D-G to head ITA

Finance Minister Avraham Hirchson has asked outgoing Finance Ministry director-general Yossi Bachar, who was set to retire this week from public service, to take over as temporary director of the Israel Tax Authority following the outbreak of a scandal involving several of the authority's senior staff, Channel 2 reported Friday. Contrary to earlier reports, Bachar has not yet accepted the position, although Army Radio reported that he was "leaning in that direction." If he accepts, Bachar is likely to serve as head of the ITA for at least a month.
