IDF suspends Lt. over shooting incident

Reserve soldier commanded team that wounded 4 Palestinians during riots.

Judea and Samaria Regional Division Commander Brig. Gen. Nitzan Alon onMonday suspended an IDF reserve officer at the rank of lieutenant whocommanded a team that fired at Palestinian rioters in the West Bankvillage of Husan, the military said in a statement.
One Palestinian was moderately wounded and three others were lightly hurt by the IDF fire. 
Theincident occurred during IDF activity in the village, when Palestinianshurled firebombs and rocks at soldiers from a nearby street. The forcefired back towards the rioters, and in addition fired at a vehicle thatwas spotted leaving the scene and aroused the suspicion of the force'scommander. Four Palestinians were wounded during the shooting.
TheIDF, with the liaison of the Civil Administration, which is in touchwith the relevant Palestinian medical officials, has offered medicalassistance in addition to conveying its regret over the incident.
An initial investigation conducted by the Etzion RegionalBrigade Commander Col. Eran Makov suggested that the force did notfollow the army's rules of engagement.
The suspension of the reserve force commander is pending a more thorough investigation. 
Alon ordered that all forces operating in the Judea and Samaria region will be re-briefed on the rules of engagement.
Inthe statement, the IDF expressed its sorrow over any incident whereharm is caused to civilians not associated with terrorism.
