Israeli court rules Hamas must compensate terror victims

The Jerusalem District Court ruled on Sunday afternoon that Hamas must pay compensation totaling NIS 90 million to the Gavish family, whose parents were killed in a terrorist attack in Elon Moreh approximately four years ago. In his summing up, Judge Aharon Farkash said that it was an act of terror which was perpetrated with the full intentions to kill the victims and destroy their families. In reaction, the prosecutor for the family, Nitzana Darshan-Leitner, said that an unlawful precedent was set meaning that Hamas had never before been duty bound to compensate terror victims. Courts, mainly in the US, have ordered Hamas to compensate families of terrorist victims, but at this moment in time there is no one from which to collect what is owed to them.
