Jerusalem banquet hall worker crushed to death by elevator

A 24-year-old worker at a Jerusalem banquet hall was crushed to death early Monday by an elevator, police and rescue officials said. The victim, a resident of the east Jerusalem neighborhood of Beit Hanina, was pronounced dead on the scene by Magen David Adom medics. The after-midnight accident, which took place at the Shirat Hayam banquet hall in the city's Givat Shaul neighborhood, is being investigated by the Transportation Ministry. The owner of the banquet hall has been placed under arrest for questioning, Jerusalem police spokesman Shmuel Ben-Ruby said. The elevator was being used to unload goods at the time of the accident, he said.
