President Moshe Katsav officially announced to Knesset Speaker Reuben Rivlin Friday morning that the Knesset would be dissolved and that the Israeli political system was entering the elections period.
Although plans were discussed for the composition of a temporary government, no such request was received.
The signatures of 61 Knesset members would have succeeded in preventing the disbanding of the Knesset.
