Keren Kayemet LeIsrael in Jerusalem and the Jewish National Fund in the US reached an agreement on Tuesday that will pave the way for new levels of cooperation in the coming years, according to a press statement issued by the organizations.
The agreement between KKL and JNF-USA was reached in a series of meetings between representatives of KKL, World Chairman Yechiel Leket and Deputy Chairman Menachem Leibowitz, and representatives of JNF-USA, President Ronald S. Lauder and Chief Executive Officer Russell Robinson.
In the discussions, arrangements were made for streamlining the working relations between the organizations. Methods were also discussed for improving fundraising for projects and for examining the possibility of including new responsibilities that could be of interest to them.
Agreements were also reached on the according of observer status on the KKL Board of Directors to JNF representatives from abroad. Also discussed were the continuing appointments of new emissaries to the US.
Leket and Lauder expressed satisfaction with the understanding that had been reached and both said they hoped that from now on joint activities would only intensify and that together they would make a significant contribution to the development of the Negev.
KKL's legal advisers Meir Alfeia, and Helena Baylin have promoted an agreement, as approved by KKL board of directors, on the setting up of a corporation that will focus on developing the Negev, a proposal raised by MK Shimon Peres, the Minister for the Development of the Negev & the Galilee.
KKL-JNF and the Israeli government will be partners in the corporation, which will be headed by Lauder representing KKL-JNF, and Ya'acov Terner representing the government.
