Lag Ba-Omer rally at Homesh

Settlers have planned a day of festivities on Lag Ba'Omer this Tuesday centered around a call for the government to allow the resettlement of Homesh and three other Samaria settlements which were evacuated during Disengagement in 2005. Participants plan to march first from the Shavei Shomron settlement to the site of the former Sebastia train station where they will meet with veterans from the settlement movement. They will then push on to the destroyed Homesh site where a rally will be held with politicians. At night they plan to light a huge bonfire that can be seen for miles. The event was scheduled in part to make a statement about the strength of the settlement movement in advance of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's upcoming meeting with US President Barack Obama in DC later this month.
