A family living on Tel Aviv's streets is dealing with yet another hardship after a son reportedly killed his mother and attempted to murder his father. Police were called in the early hours of Monday morning after a passerby saw two men fighting near a public park. The men, who turned out to be father and son, were arrested before the body of 58-year-old Margarita Karilov was discovered on a park bench covered by a blanket off of Leonardo Da Vinci Street. A Magen David Adom paramedic crew pronounced her dead on the scene. Police learned from the father that the 23-year-old son had attempted to strangle both of his parents, succeeding, allegedly, in killing his mother. But the father awoke and fought back. "She is finished," the father told police officers who had arrived at the scene. He then received medical treatment for light injuries sustained in the scuffle with his son. On Monday afternoon, police returned to the murder scene with the father and asked him to reenact the events of the previous night. The family was well known to police and municipal workers, who say they repeatedly offered assistance, but were rebuffed. Neighbors became accustomed to seeing the family live in the park, surrounded by all of their various belongings. The family is believed to have been living on the streets for some time.
