The Meretz convention turned down two controversial proposals on Sunday in Ramat Efal. The first proposal would have forced party chairman Yossi Beilin to run for a slot on the Meretz list next month. The second would have required party veterans Ran Cohen and Haim Oron to receive 60 percent of the vote in the party convention to get elected to the Meretz Knesset list. Instead they will only require convention approval to run. Cohen had threatened to reconsider his political future if the 60-percent proposal had passed.
