Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz said Sunday that Israel's victory in the 1973 Yom Kippur War paved the way to a peace agreement with Egypt. Speaking at the official ceremony on Mt. Herzl commemorating the fallen soldiers of the 1973 war and the War of Attrition in the years preceding it, Mofaz added that Israel's wish today was to put an end to the era of wars in the region and to complete the circle of peace with its neighbors. Revealing the historical truth, Mofaz concluded, was critical to gleaning lessons from the past. “We must not describe the war as a series of failures.”
