Netanyahu tells EU he will pursue peace

Opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu was seeking to reassure Europeans that he will continue peace talks with the Palestinians if he wins February's general election. Netanyahu spoke to EU ambassadors after primaries in his Likud Party catapulted several hawkish candidates into the top 30 places on its list. Netanyahu spokesman Ron Dermer said Netanyahu told the diplomats at a lunch on Thursday that "he will call the shots and he will also choose a government that will enable him to carry out his policy." Following the results of Monday's primary, outgoing Prime Minister Ehud Olmert claimed that a victory for a right-leaning Likud slate could send Israel into international isolation.
