New GPO director named

Danny Seaman, the Government Press Office’s long-time, outspoken and often controversial director, will be replaced by Oren Helman, who served as an advisor to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu when the latter was finance minister in the early
2000s, the Public Diplomacy and Diaspora Affairs Ministry announced Wednesday.

Helman, 41, served previously as a spokesman for the Israel Broadcasting Authority.
“The challenges are many and I believe that the incoming GPO director will know how to deal with them successfully,” said Ronen Plot, director-general of the Public Diplomacy and Diaspora Affairs Ministry in a statement.
The GPO is part of the ministry and is responsible for issuing government press cards and coordinating media coverage for state events and official visits by foreign leaders. It is also responsible for the National Photo Collection.
