Petition calls for release of Hagai and Yigal Amir

The family of Yitzhak Rabin's murderer, Yigal Amir, published a petition calling for the release of Yigal and his brother Hagai. In the petition, the family wrote that 10 years in solitary confinement was "enough punishment" for breaking the law, whereas the "crimes of Yitzhak Rabin against his nation" led to both loss of life and impaired security. In response to the petition, Deputy-Minister to Shimon Peres, Orit Noked, declared: "The gall and nerve of the Amir family members know no boundaries." She continued, "Neither their time nor their abhorrent drivel can erase the terrible crime or the abyss created by him [Amir] in the Israeli society.
