There is nothing Israel wants more than peace, but it "must be prepared for anything that can harm it," Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said Sunday at a conference of the Jewish National Fund (Keren Kayemet LeIsrael).
"We must cope with enemies from south and north, and those far away, who talk of wiping Israel off the map."
The prime minister said that he was doing his best to ensure "that our children and grandchildren won't [experience] the pain that characterizes life here."
