Police push for indictment in schoolgirl's slaying

Dichter: I will try to expand power of school security guards.

Detectives appeared to be a small step closer to solving the murder of 13-year-old Katzrin schoolgirl Ta'r Rada on Wednesday. That indication came from the remand extension of Roman Zadorov, a 29-year-old Katzrin resident who was working in construction at the Nofei Golan High School when Rada was murdered in a school bathroom. While two other adults were previously arrested in connection with the case, they both had their remands extended by three days each, and were subsequently released when those extensions wore out. In contrast, Zadorov's relatively long remand extension of eight days indicated that police might be trying to build a case for an indictment against this latest suspect. As Zadorov appeared in court, Rada's family ended the week of mourning following their daughter's murder. Gathering at the Katzrin cemetery, family, friends, and hundreds of residents of the "capital of the Golan" comforted Ta'ir's parents Shmuel and Ilana and two older brothers, Ro'i and Ehud. Rada's murder was also discussed in Jerusalem, as MKs proposed that the Knesset hold a discussion on the gruesome incident. Internal Security Minister Avi Dichter told the Knesset that "it is my intention to find as soon as possible addition jurisdictions that can be given to security guards at educational institutions." The issue of delegating additional authority to school security guards will be addressed in the coming meeting of the Council for the Struggle Against Violence, an inter-ministerial panel headed by Dichter. Police Chief Insp.-Gen. Moshe Karadi also discussed the murder Wednesday, taking advantage of a visit to the North to receive an overview from the special detective team looking into the brutal stabbing. "The best of our investigative and intelligence tools and resources necessary will be allocated to the investigation into the murder," Karadi told the investigative team. On Thursday, pupils and staff at the Nofei Golan High School, which has been off-limits to the press as teachers and students try to return to their routine schedules, will hold a torchlight procession and assembly in memory of their classmate. The procession will begin at the school itself, and proceed down the main street of the town, until reaching Rehov Hameshushim, where it will pass by the Rada family's house, retracing the walk home from school that Ta'ir never survived to complete one week ago.
