Senior positions filled at Foreign Ministry

Rafi Barak, who has served as deputy chief of mission in Israel's embassy in Washington and also as acting ambassador in Paris during last summer's war in Lebanon, was named the next deputy director-general for western Europe, the Foreign Ministry announced on Tuesday. Barak will replace Ran Curiel, who will become Israel's ambassador to the EU. Other appointments announced were Pinhas Avivi, currently Israel's ambassador to Turkey, as deputy director-general for Central Europe and Eurasia; Ruth Kahanoff, who has previously served as ambassador to Wellington, as deputy director-general for Asia and the Pacific; Ya'akov Revah, former consul in Paris, as deputy director-general for Africa; Victor Harel, Israel's ambassador to Spain, as the ministry's inspector general; and Simon Roded, who previously served as counselor and consul of administration at the embassy in Washington, as head of manpower.
