Likud second-place victor Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom called newly-elected Likud Chairman Binyamin Netanyahu and congratulated him on his victory, while emphasizing that he will remain in Likud despite his loss.
Shalom was victorious in several key cities, such as Ashdod (346-324) and Beersheba (717-493).
