The Israeli school system suffered a new blow on Wednesday as the Education Ministry revealed that the majority of fifth-grade students received near-failing grades on standardized math tests, or Meitzav (an acronym for 'school growth and efficiency index').
The national math score average stood at 56.9.
Students also showed a decline in test scores in English, science and technical subjects.
Arabic-speaking students showed consistently lower scores than Hebrew speakers, the report showed.
