US military: 3 soldiers killed by Baghdad bomb

Three American soldiers were killed Wednesday by a roadside bomb northwest of Baghdad, the US military said. The soldiers were struck as they patrolled a well-traveled route to clear it of explosives, the military said in a statement. One soldier was wounded in the blast, it said. The victims' names were withheld pending family notification. The deaths came a day after the military announced that nine soldiers died in two separate attacks on Monday, the deadliest single day for Americans in Iraq in nearly a month. Six soldiers died Monday when a bomb exploded near their vehicles in Salahuddin province, and another three died in a roadside bomb in Diyala, the military said.
