The 35-year-old Holon woman whose husband and daughter were killed when a truck smashed into their car on the Jerusalem-Tel Aviv Highway over the weekend suffered multiple injuries and is in serious condition at Sheba Medical Center, Tel Hashomer, but she will recover physically, her doctors said.
She was intentionally rendered unconscious so she would not suffer after her operation, but her brain function is normal.
Her seven-year-old son was apparently thrown from the car and survived with no significant injury. He has not been given all the details but apparently senses that his father and sister are dead.
Alon Sagiv, the brother of the woman - who has not been identified by name - said the accident could have happened to anyone. "Any person could have been part of these grisly statistics. Until yesterday, we were a healthy and happy family. Now everything has exploded in a split second. A driver with 195 moving violations who received a license to drive a semitrailer truck is responsible. It is a license to kill. "Transportation Minister Shaul Mofaz is directly responsible for the accident, as Mofaz left this driver with his license," Sagiv said.
It "is time to create a revolution regarding accidents, to stiffen punishments and to educate drivers to have more patience on the road. We have become part of the shocking road accidents statistics, and we will carry this with us for the rest of our lives," Sagiv said.
