Iron swords: we are all experiencing days of unease. A lot of questions and especially a lot of pain. Bereaved families who lost their loved ones, hundreds of abductees and captives, and thousands of residents from the south who were displaced from their homes and are wracked with fear and anxiety.
We are not privy to the panorama of God’s plans, and cannot help but ask anguished questions. When will this all end? When will we live calmly and peacefully without wars and blood?
In his last talk, Rabbi Yoshiyahu Pinto opened a window to faith which gives a broader perspective to the present reality. He conveys a clear message to us that in the end, everything will turn out to be for the best, even if the present is difficult and painful.
Rabbi Pinto's words are based on a story by Rabbi Nachman of Breslav that appears in his book Sippurei Maasiyot. A man labored in mortar his entire life. His life suddenly changed when he found a precious diamond. When the diamond fell into the sea, he was almost overcome with despair. But when he mustered his inner strength, everything turned around for the good.
Rabbi Pinto's words are relevant to each one of us, especially in this period, but not only. Sometimes it seems that we are failing, but those who continue to hold strong - can use that momentum to improve their situation and climb higher than they thought possible.
