Rabbi Yoshiahu Pinto, a descendant of Moroccan Jewish sages was installed in a official ceremony, the only Muslim government country in modern times to recognize a Jewish rabbinic authority.
Ruling upholds Lod District Court's ruling on September 29 which had overturned the Parole Board’s earlier to grant Pinto the early release.
The board had delayed its order so that the state prosecution could appeal to the Lod District Court.
Favors allegedly included NIS 700,000 shekels towards an apartment in Tel Aviv, according to details revealed after court lifts gag order.

“We are certain that all of the vicious rumors swirling around us will not harm a hair on our head, and we will emerge from this stronger and more empowered,” Pinto wrote.

The Arbiv/Pinto case is by no means unique. It's merely the most high-profile instance where the prosecution seemed to seek a shortcut to avoid a showdown in court.
