IDC to get major expansion

The 12-year-old Interdisciplinary Center in Herzliya will be enlarged on two sides to contain student dormitories of up to 13 stories each.

The District Planning and Construction Committee has approved a significant expansion of Herzliya's renowned Interdisciplinary Center, reports www.local.co.il. The 12-year-old center will be enlarged on two sides to contain student dormitories of up to 13 stories each, new faculty buildings of up to seven stories each, a new sports center and extra parking. According to the report, the expanded campus will occupy 180 dunams of land bounded by the streets Kanfei Nesharim, Jabotinsky, Alterman and Begin. A municipal spokesman said the committee had approved the plan after "long and thorough discussions" on the matter, with all points of view being expressed. But some councilors said the decision had been made in breach of agreements to build more housing for residents in the area. They also said it was odd that the committee had agreed to build multi-storied buildings so close to the city's airfield. No response was reported.
