The economic committee headed by Knesset member Gilad Erdan is urging the government to reconsider its decision to make the Krayot bypass highway a toll road, reports Yediot Haifa.
Erdan said residents of the north were already under economic strain, and having to pay for using the road would only add to it.
According to the report, the committee discussed the issue of toll roads in general and the Krayot bypass road in particular. Erdan said the government should not double-charge by placing tolls on roads that were paid for by public taxes in the first place. And he said that in the north, which was heavily stricken economically by the 2006 Second Lebanon War, the government should "be considerate" and not impose any toll on the Krayot bypass.
