Antenna radiation levels in line, survey finds

Good news for residents of the Sharon area... Radiation levels from cellphone antennas in the district are all well below the maximum permitted level, according to a survey by the National Council for the Prevention of Noise and Air Pollution in Israel. The survey, conducted in schools, kindergartens, public buildings, offices and private homes around the country between January and June 2008, found no breaches of permitted radiation levels as a result of authorized cellphone antennas in the Sharon area, reports www.local.co.il. According to the report, the survey measured radiation levels at 731 sites around Israel, comprising 366 kindergartens, 139 schools, 73 public buildings, 53 residential buildings, 35 office buildings, 34 private houses, 30 public spaces and one old-age home. Throughout the Sharon area, radiation levels were found to be well below the 40 microwatts per centimeter fixed by the Ministry for Environmental Protection as the maximum acceptable level. The report said that in Kfar Saba, 15 kindergartens and four schools were surveyed at the request of the city's education department, and radiation levels were found to range from 0.1 to 22 microwatts per centimeter. Three other sites were also surveyed in Kfar Saba and were also well below the maximum level. Sites surveyed in Hod Hasharon, Herzliya, Netanya, Ramat Hasharon and Kfar Vitkin also returned low readings, in most cases less than one microwatt per centimeter. No comments were reported from any of the local authorities.
