City moves to give businesses a facelift

If the Municipal Finances Committee has its way, Tel Aviv business owners who agree to change the signs in front of their stores to meet city requirements will be given an exemption from the annual signage fee charged by the city, reports www.mynet.co.il. The committee recently approved an alteration to local by-laws to allow the exemption in a move to encourage business owners to comply with the city's efforts to make Tel Aviv more attractive. According to the report, dozens of businesses whose shopfront signs do not meet the city's standards have already been asked to change them. The city aims to create a uniform appearance in renovated streets, with signs of the same size and color and containing the same cursive script. But numerous business owners have protested against the demand and against the cost of changing their signs, which runs into the thousands of shekels.
