They're not lovin' it

"International Day Against McDonald's" was recently held in the city, during which demonstrators, painted as sad-faced clowns, protesting against the slaughter of cows.

Animal rights activists broke the windows of the McDonald's hamburger store in Jaffa's Sderot Yerushalayim last week and spray-painted the words "Meat Equals Murder" on the walls, reports Yediot Tel Aviv. The incident is the latest in a series of deliberate attacks and misfortunes to strike the fast-food chain in the Tel Aviv area recently. According to the report, last month the McDonald's branch on Rehov Sheinkin had its windows broken, apparently deliberately. In recent months several other McDonald's stores in Tel Aviv have reportedly closed down, including one on Rehov Ibn Gvirol and another on Sderot Rothschild. Several weeks ago an "International Day Against McDonald's" was held in the city, during which demonstrators, painted as sad-faced clowns, went from store to store holding up signs protesting against the slaughter of cows and the eating of meat. At least two people were arrested at the demonstrations. A McDonald's spokesman said the breaking of the windows in the Jaffa branch was under police investigation. The spokesman added that the closure of the other stores occurred because their success was "a function of the attractiveness of the street in which they operate," and the many McDonald's branches in shopping malls were much more successful.
