120 meters of Zionism at Ben-Gurion Airport
As part of events marking 120 years since the First Zionist Congress, Ben-Gurion Airport has teamed up with the World Zionist Organization to feature a 120-meter- long display in the travel hub’s departure hall.
A launching event was held on Sunday for the display of photographs, illustrations and graphics depicting landmarks in the history of Zionism. The multi-panel collage display depicts issues that led to the Zionist movement’s fulfillment of its vision over the past 120 years, including immigration, settlement and agricultural development, the Diaspora, Jerusalem, security and defense, minorities in Israel, the revival of the Hebrew language and pioneering women in Zionism.
Some 8 million passengers are expected to view the exhibit while it is on display this year. Various leaders attended the event, including Transportation Minister Israel Katz, WZO chairman Avraham Duvdevani, Ben-Gurion Airport director-general Shmuel Zakai, Airports Authority director-general Yaakov Ganot and Airports Authority chairman Eliezer Marom.
In 1897, the Zionist movement to reestablish a Jewish homeland in what is now Israel was established as a political organization under Theodor Herzl at the First Zionist Congress in Basel, Switzerland.
Young diplomats mark Holocaust at intimate Tel Aviv event
Some 20 foreign diplomats took part this week in an interactive social event to mark International Holocaust Remembrance Day, which is observed on January 27.
As part of a collaboration between the American Jewish Committee’s ACCESS program for young leaders and the Zikaron BaSalon Holocaust commemoration and education initiative, the diplomats met on Tuesday at a Tel Aviv apartment to discuss and learn about the Holocaust in a casual and intimate setting.
Zikaron BaSalon was established seven years ago and encourages hosts to hold living-room meetings for guests to stand testament to the historical accounts of Holocaust survivors and interact openly as the generation of survivors dwindles.
