2 police officers killed, 1 wounded in separate attacks in Iraq

Two Iraqi policemen were killed and one was wounded Saturday in three separate attacks south of Baghdad, police said. First, gunmen attacked an Iraqi checkpoint around 7 a.m. in Jbala, about 70 kilometers (43 miles) south of Baghdad, wounding one officer, police said. Half an hour later, a roadside bomb exploded next to a police patrol in Mahaweel, about 56 kilometers (35 miles) south of Baghdad, killing one officer and damaging his vehicle, police said. Then at 8 a.m., police said gunmen killed a plainclothes officer in a civilian car in central Hillah, 95 kilometers (60 miles) south of Baghdad.
