Abbas to appoint new Fatah leadership

Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas announced on Saturday night the appointment of a new Fatah leadership. Israel Radio reported that a special committee was appointed to prepare the movement for new elections and that the committee's activities would begin immediately. The committee is set to consist of 23 of Fatah's young leaders and will include former Palestinian National Security advisor and veteran Fatah member Jibril Rajoub, former security minister Muhammad Dahlan and chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat. Abbas also announced that he was reactivating the negotiating division of the Palestinian Liberation Organization in order to indicate his intentions to renew peace talks with Israel.
