Egypt has summoned Iran's envoy to protest his country's backing of Hizbullah, which Cairo accuses of sabotage and plans to attack Israeli tourists on Egyptian soil.
Iran had said earlier that Egypt is fabricating its charges that a Hizbullah cell is looking to attack Egyptian institutions and spread Shi'a Islam.
Egyptian Deputy Foreign Ministry Mohammed Zarkani told the envoy that such comments were a "flagrant interference in Egypt's internal affairs," according to the state news agency Tuesday.
Earlier this month, Egypt announced that 49 alleged Hizbullah agents were wanted for plotting to destabilize the country.
Hizbullah's leader, Hassan Nasrallah, has rejected the accusations.
