An explosion was heard in one of Beirut's Muslim neighborhoods late Monday, residents and television stations reported.
The private Future TV station said at least four people were injured in the explosion near the Verdun shopping area in the Sunni Muslim sector of Beirut. Hezbollah's Al-Manar television said the explosion occurred in a car park near the Russian Cultural Center in the posh district.
Television footage showed a car burning near a building as a fire engine doused the flames with water. An elderly man with a wound to his head was seen being carried away by pedestrians.
Several nearby cars also were wrecked in the blast, and a high-floor apartment in a nearby building was in flames. Pieces of wood and glass littered the streets and hung from balconies.
