A 25-year-old Palestinian was shot and killed in the northern Gaza Strip on Wednesday, setting off brief gunbattles that undercut an already fragile truce between rival factions.
Two people were moderately hurt in the shootout, hospital and security officials said.
The dead man belonged to an armed wing of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah party. Fatah officials wouldn't comment publicly on the shooting, but privately blamed Hamas, the Islamic group that controls the Palestinian parliament and Cabinet.
The renewed violence came two days after the two sides carried out a series of kidnappings and engaged in gunbattles, in violation of a mid-December truce.
